When the mediator between the hands (factory workers) and the mental faculty in Fritz Lang's Metropolis (1927) discovers that his Romantic ideal, a 'pure' girl, that represents the feelings and emotions, has been replaced by a machine by the head of the mental faculty (his father) and a mad scientist, a variety of Grawlixes appear in the shape of stars, spiraling motions, lightblobs and a skull.
